OUR STORY The tale begins in the winter of 1992, when we opened our first store in a former car garage in the small town of Wayne, Pennsylvania. Anthropologie was conceived as something entirely new – an oasis for the discerning woman with an appetite for worldly inspiration.
The Anthro woman contains multitudes, and who she is shapes all we do. About half of our shoppers are 30–49 years old, though we cater to all ages – you’ll often see generations of women shopping together in our stores. Most customers are educated and professionally active. They care deeply about their families, passions, hobbies, and causes. They’re enchanted by travel and savor every adventure.
Our commitment to her is evident not just in carefully curated merchandise – now expanded from apparel and décor to include a suite of furniture, kids’ and babies’ apparel, as well as wellness and beauty products — but in our brand campaigns and distinctive displays. In the fall of 2018, for example, we launched “Portrait of a Woman,” a multimedia campaign celebrating pioneering women of all ages, backgrounds, and sizes.
For more than 25 years, we’ve delivered delightful clothing, accessories, and home-décor details that make every outfit, meal, and celebration simply one of a kind. Together, we are there for the moments that matter. Together, we are Anthropologie.
