(September 15, 2023) Urban Outfitters celebrates Hispanic heritage and culture with the launch of exclusive collections designed by 8 Latinx/e creatives across the fashion, art, music, and culinary spaces. With designs from Chef Paola Velez, Rebecca Maria, Peralta Project, Porto’s Bakery & Cafe, Hermanos Koumori, Pangea Sound, Guava LA and Bueno, Urban Outfitters aims to authentically reflect the beauty and complexity of the Hispanic experience with a digital shopping destination and special activations kicking off September 15th.
Campaign Creative – Featuring UO Latinx/e Employees The UO Hispanic Heritage Collections are a meaningful company initiative brought forward by a talented and dedicated team of Urban Outfitters Latinx/e employees and members of URBN’s Employee Resource Group, “Voces” (Voices). Ensuring the vibrancy and authenticity of the collections and purposeful work behind them, the Latinx/e UO employees are the models in the editorial photoshoot that took place at UO’s headquarters in Philadelphia, PA. The employees include: Joey Perez, Sophia Valenzuela, Cipriano Deharo, Caro Ramirez, Alexis Jurado, Ariana Ferreira, Christian Gonzalez, Christopher Laboy, Maria Fernanda Miranda, Xichelle Montes, Mario Ramirez-Mendez, and Mark Esparza (Chef Paola Velez also modeled her own designs). The designed campaign assets were additionally influenced by the brightness and energy of Hispanic culture, visualized through a warm color gradient representing unity amongst its diverse community. The type treatment is inspired by the large, bold lettering seen in street posters and signage across Latin America and the chosen typeface “Versus” by Latinotype was created by a Latin-owned type foundry. All campaign copy will additionally be available in Spanish, furthering UO’s commitment to connecting with its diverse customer base.
Donation Purchases from the UO Hispanic Heritage Collections support a donation of $30,000 to La Liga del Barrio, Philadelphia’s first Latino youth basketball league offering sports programs to minorities across the city. For 22 years, La Liga del Barrio has provided children ages 6-18 the opportunity to develop sports and academic skills and are currently raising funds to build a sports facility and community hub in the city.
