URBN Named Equality 100 Award Winner for LGBTQ+ Equality

Diversity and Inclusion November 30, 2023

[Philadelphia, PA, November 30, 2023] – Urban Outfitters, Inc. (URBN), a leading lifestyle products and services company comprised of global consumer brands including Anthropologie, Free People, Urban Outfitters, and Nuuly, today announced it has received a perfect 100 score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI).

As the national benchmarking tool measuring policies, practices and benefits pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) employees, the CEI is a primary driving force for LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion. Data from the CEI tells the story of nearly two decades of year over year growth in the adoption of these critical policies and practices indicative of employers' commitment to equality.

This is URBN’s first year achieving a perfect score on the CEI, thanks to the close collaboration of URBN’s HR, benefits, and communications teams and advocacy from the URBN PRISM Employee Resource Group.

“I am thrilled URBN has reached this milestone,” said Azeez Hayne, Chief Administrative Officer of URBN. “We have worked hard to intentionally build an inclusive culture, and that includes creating benefits and policies that support and uplift our LGBTQ+ colleagues. I’m delighted to have our efforts recognized by the HRC Foundation.”

“As the Executive Sponsor of the URBN PRISM ERG, I am incredibly proud of our members who championed this initiative and assisted our internal teams to achieve this score,” said Demo Lymberopoulos, Global Executive Director, Customer Technology. “I’m also proud of our brand teams who support the LGBTQ+ community through marketing, nonprofit partnerships, and special collections. I’m excited to keep building on this success.”

All URBN retail brands support organizations dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community. Urban Outfitters’ partners include Active Minds, GLSEN, the Phluid Project, and Housing Works. Free People is a long-term supporter of the Mazzoni Center and William Way with financial and product donations, as well as employee volunteering. Anthropologie partners with local non-profits across several markets, financially supporting their community work.
